PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To provide chemical expertise to the Product Development Teams and the Environmental efforts. To provide technical support, process engineering and maintenance support for manufacturing and engineering projects. To supervise correspondence and projects related to environmental protection.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical leadership to Chemical Product Development and Environmental Programs.
- Develop processes and chemistries to optimize performance of products, including lubricants, coatings and additives
- Provide guidance and analysis on a corporate wide basis as to chemicals and materials used within the manufacture of our products
- Assist in the selection of materials used in our products so as to meet performance requirements, such as chemical resistance of plastics and metals to various household or industrial environments.
- Conceive, review and compose Environmental Plans.
- Assist and provide guidance in Sustainability programs aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of our product and manufacturing operations.
- Manage performance of project work by vendors and outside contractors.
- Exercise engineering judgment as to design and installation of Chemical Projects which may include cleaning systems, coating processes, fire suppressions systems, etc.
- Provide overall support and leadership to all affiliated locations to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local environmental regulations, including permit applications, revisions, renewals, audits and routine communication.
- Exercise engineering judgment as to the design and installation of pollution prevention equipment.
- Maintain liaison with all Environmental Regulatory Agencies (FEDERAL, STATE & LOCAL) for all locations and provide assistance and review of correspondence to Environmental regulatory agencies for all affiliated locations.
- Supervise the accumulation, storage, and transportation of hazardous waste and materials for all locations.
- Prepare necessary documentation, which includes Capital Appropriation Requests, Purchase Requisitions, Project Work Orders, Shop Work Orders, etc.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Directly Supervises: Engineering Projects
- Indirectly Supervises: Members of project teams, outside consultants, technicians, designer drafters, supervisors, and designated affiliated facility contacts.
Position Qualifications
Five to Ten years experience in a related Chemical Engineering discipline; part of the experience should be in project management and process engineering.
Additional Requirements
A background in adhesives, lubricants and polymers used in consumer products would be helpful. Familiarity with Environmental controls and regulations is a plus.
