POSITION OVERVIEW
Provide financial management and compliance services for the global RTA IS&T team as well as driving a wide variety of continuous improvement initiatives, aimed at ensuring that the team operates effectively and efficiently as possible. The primary purpose of the Controls and Improvement Specialist is to:
- Manage the costs and chargebacks for the global RTA IS&T team
- Provide financial support to the VP IS&T and to the regional Industrial Systems Managers
- Coordinate the RTA IS&T Planning process
- Undertake a wide variety of continous improvement and support initiatives as directed by the VP IS&T
- Coordinate compliance programmes for RTA IS&T including ICQ and SOX
- Attend to miscellaneous requests from Rio Tinto IS&T and other corporate functions
Without this role, effective controls and compliance management of the RTA IS&T function would not occur, resulting in less than ideal cost management and risk exposure. In addition, the Rio Tinto Alcan VP IS&T would continue to be inadvertently pulled into detailed work on financial management, compliance requests and ad-hoc requests from Rio Tinto IS&T and other functions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountabilities % of Time
- Manage the costs, chargebacks and invoicing for the global RTA IS&T team
- Provide financial and compliance support to the VP IS&T and to the regional Industrial Systems Managers
- Coordinate the RTA IS&T planning process; both operating planning and capital planning
- Undertake a wide variety of continuous improvement and support initiatives as directed by the VP IS&T
- Coordinate compliance programmes for RTA IS&T including ICQ and SOX
- Reporting on synergy targets/progress
- Coordinate and prepare the RTA IS&T Monthly Report
- Manage the RTA IS&T eRoom
- Attend to miscellaneous requests from Rio Tinto IS&T
- Work closely with peers in RTA Finance and Rio Tinto IS&T to ensure effective and efficient outcomes

- Need to be able to able to effectively execute a wide variety of challenging tasks
- Need to be able to understand complex financial arrangements (often international) and charging mechanisms
- Need to be able to portray complex financial arrangements in easy-to-understand language/presentations
- Need to be able to balance competing priorities and demands of a global workforce
EDUCATION
Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline, ideally accounting – Essential
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Appropriate experience in commercial operations – ideally with an IT flavour
- Mining/Metals and RTA “on site” experience would be useful
